Pounded Yam is a popular African dish similar to mashed potatoes but heavier. Pounded Yam is very smooth and tasty. It is often eaten with vegetable soup or eguzi soup.

Pounded yam is made from yam or yam floor. Traditional way of making yam floor would be from yam. First the skin is pealed with knife. Then it is boiled in water until it is soft. Then it is meshed or pounded with mortar and pestle. Most Africans in diaspora  find it easier and more convenient to prepare it from yam flour. The flour is stirred in a hot boiling water until it thickens
